Production Notes

  1. Search Engines: This page would not have been possible without the vast goodness that is Google. Many thanks to all the Googlers for all the cool work they are doing.
  2. Art Remembered: We first got the idea for this silliness way back in 1996 when we created the original version of this page. Since then all the clip art sites where we obtained the images on this web page have gone defunct. Still, for the record, we list them all below for your nostalgic pleasure.
  3. Art I: The 12 days images were obtained from the now defunct Brad's Favorite Clip Art site, and by way of the equally defunct Sandra's Clip Art Server (went under way back in 1995).
  4. Art II: The cool border and Christmas art came from the amazing, and again defunct, Bordertown and the equally dead Christmas Clip Art site. The burning tree (look around) was provided by the prolific (pushing up the daisies) Jon's Clip Art Archive. The Hobbes Icon Archive (apparently dead, but still haunting the web as a ghost here) provided the sound icons. The heart came from the animated beating heart icon found in 1996 at Barry's Clip Art Server, a site which does not seem to be at all related to the original Barry, whoever he was, bless his beating little heart.
  5. Graphic Tools: Back in 1996 it was PC Paintbrush (who said powerful graphics tools need to be expensive - and besides they included a box of crayons in the package :), Color MacCheese for the Mac, GifConverter for the Mac, xpaint, xv. This year we didn't need to twiddle any graphics. Anybody want to buy the original Mac Si which actually touched some of the bits on this page? Ooooohhhhh....
  6. Text Tools: The original 1996 page was created with Microsoft Word for the IBM-PC, vi, and the Elvis vi clone on Linux. Seven years later, we're still using vi clones on Linux. You just don't mess with perfection.
  7. WWW Tools: Mozilla, of course.
  8. HTML Tools: Vim vi clone on Linux (we STILL don't need no stinkin' HTML editors!)
  9. Sound Tools: Sound Blaster Creative Wavestudio. A long defunct product, but Creative Technologies is still turning out cool products - check out the NOMAD Jukebox Zen NX.
  10. Sound Cable Adapters: Radio Shack.
  11. Operating Systems: Netsurfer Communications is powered by Linux and SunOS. Occasionally we stoop to MS Windows. Naturally, some of us also enjoy their Macs.
  12. Computing equipment: A bunch of laptops, several self-assembled servers, a Penguin, and a Sun box.
  13. Music:
  14. Food: Jelly Belly JBz; Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Gold loose leaf tea; Annette's onion and mince tart (mmmmm, tart...); a damn good steak; and a banana.
  15. Wine: Rex Goliath Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon
  16. Pizza: Pizz'a Chicago
  17. Cats: Dora the Ocicat, and Punky, the large orange tabby.
  18. Mascots on Top of Monitor: Godzilla, Buzz Lightyear, a small stone Canadian bear, Catwoman, Lost In Space Robot, Speed Racer, a small Kiwi bird, Betty Boop, and American McGee's Alice.
  19. Small Furry Mascot We Musn't Get Too Excited About In Public: Babs Bunny.
  20. Economic Analysis: 12 Days of Christmas Price Index
  21. History: The real story of the Twelve Days of Christmas Song
  22. Obligatory Dr. Who Reference: The 12 Doctors of Christmas
  23. Gratuitous Smugness: You probably thought we would link "golden rings" to some Lord of the Rings site, didn't you? Heh!
  24. Staff: Netsurfer Communications Inc. staff brought to you by their respective parents.
