NetTravel: How Travelers Use the Internet

Michael Shapiro
O'Reilly Publishing, 1997
ISBN 1-56592-172-0

Save your money for sightseeing by preparing for your trip with NetTravel. The book features tales from travelers who discovered bargains, researched their destinations, learned overseas railroad schedules, charted their trips, and, in one case, linked up with a British biking partner - all from the comfort of their home computers.

Virtual travel planning means that increased pleasure and saved pennies can be yours. Shapiro's well-written guide is interwoven with first-person sagas from travelers who enhanced their experiences by surfing the Net before they surfed the ocean. You'll get clued in on Web sites with information on everything from world exchange rates to hotels to adventure tours. And that's just for starters. Online newsgroups and mailing lists abound, and often, as Shapiro points out, connecting through a newsgroup or mailing list can lead "to a real-world friendship."

You also get a "NetTravel Toolbox", which contains handy Web sites listed by subjects. Everything from adventure travel to work and study abroad sites is included in your toolbox. There's also a CD-ROM with Internet software.
